Private university of applied sciences in Elmshorn with dual degree courses continues run of success.

Concept
The NORDAKADEMIE is a private, state-recognised university of applied sciences, founded in 1992 on the initiative of 28 companies from Schleswig-Holstein led by the NORDMETALL Association. In 1996 the supporting organisation  was transformed from a non-profit private limited company to a non-profit public limited company. This legal status is  unique for universities in Germany. Most of the 46 shareholders are partner companies of the university, such as Airbus, Dräger, Hauni, Philips, Phoenix, ExxonMobil or Axel Springer Verlag, thus ensuring the continuing existence of the university. The shareholders supervise the board of directors through the supervisory board and  perform an advisory function in the employers` advisory council.

The range of programmes concentrates on the three degree courses of Business Science and Management,Computer Science and Business Management and Industrial Engineering and Business Management as well as the MBA-Programme. Our concept is characterised by the close interlocking of theory and practice. A requirement for the undergraduate degree courses is a contract of training with one of our partner enterprises,on the basis of which the student will spend half of the 3,5-year course gathering practical business experience in the company. At present some 500 partner companies are taking advantage of the opportunity to train the next generation of competent academically qualified staff with a well-founded business background. Training specialists from the enterprises advise the university in all matters concerning the linking of academic study and practical training and also develop model training programmes. The companies are represented in various committees, such as the Employers`Advisory Council and the Conference of Training Specialists, which also serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and experience.

Student commitment
Since the foundation of the NORDAKADEMIE the  commitment of the students for their university has a played an important role.Both the very first building in Pinneberg and the new campus in Elmshorn were renovated with active student support. Our completely re-designed online presence as well as the Campus-Information-System were developed independently by students. Furthermore, the student fair team organises the representation of the university at such events largely on its own initiative. This exceptional degree of student participation is a feature of every day life at the NORDAKADEMIE.

Projects
The university management supports the expansion of the number of  projects carried out on behalf of both the public sector and business enterprises. Recent research-projects aimed the evaluation of IT-Investments or a "Fitness-Check" of company project management. Furthermore the NORDAKADEMIE is participating  in the working group "Competence-Center Windenergy Schleswig-Holstein".

MBA
In 2001 the NORDAKADEMIE launched an 18-month part-time MBA degree course: Master of Business Administration in International Marketing and Business Communication. The content of MBA course has also been developed in close collaboration with top-class lecturers with a business background in order to meet the high requirements of the economy.

Rankings
The NORDAKADEMIE is not only a university of applied sciences but also an enterprise, which is growing  dynamically and continuously developing. Its outstanding studying conditions have been confirmed in the five surveys carried out by the Centre for the Development of Higher Education(CHE). Students at all German universities of applied sciences in the degree courses of Business Science and Management, Computer Science and Business Management and Industrial Engineering and Business Management were asked to rate, for instance, satisfaction with EDP resources, rooms and equipment, studying conditions and the learning environment. In all three degree courses the NORDAKADEMIE received best evaluations throughout Germany.
