Prof. Dr. Blake is a Professor in Cross-Cultural Management and Leadership at Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada. He held the position of Associate Dean (MBA Programs) for six years and, during the time of his appointment, the University’s Accelerated MBA and Cornell-Queen's Executive MBA were launched and Queen's MBA was named #1 in the world outside the US by BusinessWeek in three consecutive rankings. Prior to his work at Queen’s University, Prof. Blake was a member of the Faculty of Business Administration at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, where he served as the Director of the Centre for Management Development and, for nine years, as the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration.
Prof. Blake teaches Global Leadership in the Masters of Global Management program and Leadership in the MBA programs at Queen’s School of Business. He authored, co-authored or edited four books and published numerous case studies. Prof. Blake was lead editor of the book “Management in a Multi-Cultural Setting”. His research and teaching have focused on characteristics of effective leaders and the relationship between cultural adaptability and international effectiveness. Prof. Blake furthermore served on a variety of review panels for business schools in Canada, Estonia, Ireland, New Zealand and Poland.
He has been actively involved in consulting and executive development and has delivered programs in leadership, cross-cultural management and human resource management nationally and internationally. Besides his professorship, he has taught on programs for Dalhousie University, the University of British Columbia and the University of Western Ontario, as well as for the Institute for International Business at the Stockholm School of Economics. He is active in consulting and executive development and has worked with a variety of public (e.g. the Government of Manitoba, Canada) and private clients in Abu Dhabi, Brazil, Canada, Dubai, Ireland, Mexico, Oman and the U.K. (e.g. BMW Canada, Royal Sun Alliance, CIBC).
Prof. Blake has served on the board of directors of Fishery Products International, Ireland Business Partnerships, the Genesis Group, the CA Educational Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Homestead Land Holdings. He also served as External Examiner for the MBA Program at the Dublin Institute of Technology, on the teering Committee for the Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) and on the international Advisory Council of AACSB International. From 2000 to 2002 he was Chair of the Canadian Federation of Business School Deans (CFBSD) and, in that capacity, was involved in a major advocacy campaign on the role of Business Schools in the innovation and productivity agenda and on the Initiative for the New Economy, which provided significant funding opportunities for business researchers.
A native of Kingston, Canada, and a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, Prof. Blake spent six years in a variety of leadership positions in the Canadian Navy prior to entering the University of Western Ontario where he graduated with an MBA and a Ph.D. degree in Business Administration.
