Andres Bello teaches "Quantitative Methods" at the NORDAKADEMIE: The first part of the course introduces the students to basic concepts in statistics such as central tendency measures, correlation, and linear regression analysis. Students should also be familiar with the concept of probabilities. There is also a short section in probabilities to compensate in case students are a newcomers to the statistical world. The class will derive the OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) mathematically to increase their intuition and understanding of what OLS really means. Finally, this first section will cover the building blocks upon which OLS is built. The second part of the course will introduce students to the properties of the regression coefficients and hypotheses testing in a multivariate regression analysis environment while the final section will introduce the use of qualitative data in regression analysis and how to deal with violations of the OLS assumptions, particularly, heteroscedasticity, autocorrelation, and endogeneity. Finally, some panel data techniques will be addressed and an introduction of the time series analysis will be presented.
