Welcome - Dr. Matthias Nnadi

Internationale Dozenten an der NORKADADEMIE: Dr. Matthias Nnadi (Cranfield University, UK) lehrt Kostenrechnung im englischsprachigen Studiengang International Business B.Sc. – und stellt sich vor.

My name is Dr. Matthias Nnadi and I will soon start teaching Cost Accounting in the International Business programme at Nordakademie.

As for my current position, I am module head and lecturer in accounting at Cranfield University (UK), and a visiting lecturer and external examiner at various universities in the UK and other countries.

My academic background cuts across financial and management accounting, as well as corporate finance. I hold a Bachelor degree specialising in Accounting (BSc), a Master in Business Education (MEd), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a PhD. I also hold Post-graduate Certificates (PGCert) in Academic Practice and in Business Enterprise. My research interest focuses on accounting in emerging economies, particularly questioning the relevance of international accounting standards in developing economies. My extended research interest explores the role of accounting in corporate mergers and acquisitions.

I decided to join the NORDAKADEMIE as visiting faculty for two key reasons. First, it is a university that blends academic knowledge with industrial experience, which allows students to apply academic knowledge to real work experience. Second, it is a young university with a fresh perspective. Its alliance with companies and international academics brings a rich dimension to the campus experience.

The industry engagements I maintain myself include training of corporate organisations and government agencies in understanding, and in the application of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and budgetary management. I have worked as a Budget Manager of a large telecommunication company, as well as a Stock Accountant of a multinational corporation. I head the IFRS and IPSAS modules at Cranfield University, and serve as a member of the executive board of British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) Accounting History SIG. I am a member of several accounting and other professional bodies. Some of this work experience I would like to share with my students at NORDAKADMIE.

In the past, I have also developed executive courses in IFRS and IPSAS targeting accounting and finance managers in both private and government organisations. I have trained several organisations on how to prepare their financial statements in line with the requirements of both IFRS and IPSAS. I am a recipient of the Chartered Institute of Taxation grant as well as Seedcorn funding for research. My contribution to accounting education includes the development of the ‘Individualised Accounting Technique (IAQ)’ model for the assessment of students in large accounting classes which is widely used across a range of Business Schools.

Some of my works have been published in international accounting journals, and I serve as reviewer for several accounting journals. I am a member of the editorial board of Journal of Bonds and Derivatives. I serve as the coordinator of students’ company-based projects in the finance and investment management programmes at Cranfield University School of Management and a regular contributor at international conferences and seminars.
