E-commerce

(B.Sc. Business Informatics)

Those who are interested in the field of electronic commerce and wish to specialize in this field can choose the e-commerce specialization in the dual degree program in business informatics.

This requires the completion of three elective modules and a bachelor's thesis in the field of e-commerce.

We currently offer the following elective modules for the specialization:

  • digitization in retail and logistics,
  • e-commerce,
  • digital business,
  • usability engineering,
  • market psychology and online marketing,
  • omni-channel retail,
  • online market research,
  • modern web development in SAP systems,
  • webshop development.

The module Digitalization in Retail and Logistics is devoted in particular to the steadily growing importance of digitalization for goods trading companies. In addition to e-commerce, transport in particular is also an important aspect of digitization in retail. A direct interface function between business administration and computer science is also represented by the module Digital Business, which deals, among other things, with the development of digital business models.

The elective module E-commerce is concerned with the current challenges and opportunities presented by digitalization. In this module, students gain comprehensive knowledge of the various sub-areas associated with online commerce. These include, for example, the design of online stores with regard to user-friendliness, legal regulations in online commerce or the special features of marketing in e-commerce. This elective module prepares students for the developments of the still relatively young market with great growth potential.

The linking of different sales channels, in particular stationary and online retail, is addressed in the elective module Omni-Channel Retail. The digitization of sales, logistics and marketing play an important role here.

The elective module Market Psychology and Online Marketing also focuses on current developments. In addition to the special features of marketing in the digital world, it also teaches the fundamentals of the psychological analysis of consumers and sales markets. Explanations of past consumer behavior are used to forecast future behavior, for example in relation to times of crisis or general social trends.

Building up application-oriented competencies in the area of quantitative and qualitative data analysis for solving various marketing mix tasks is the aim of the module Online Market Research.

The module Modern Web Development in SAP Systems teaches the know-how for connecting an e-commerce application to an ERP system and provides practical applications. The elective module Webshop Development focuses on the development of a store system as a digital sales channel for any business model. From conception to start-up, students gain a comprehensive and practical insight into all the important sub-areas of webshop development. This module is almost continuously accompanied by practical tasks, so that at the end of the course a functional webshop is created.

The specialization is certified on the diploma.

Students of this focus can be employed in the following areas, for example, in addition to traditional business informatics professions:

  • Webshop Development
  • E-commerce project management
  • E-commerce consulting
  • Data analytics
  • Online market research
  • Digitization of the online and offline user journey
